4-Day CDMX Itinerary

Mexico City, or CDMX, is a place where history, culture, and modern life blend seamlessly. With so much to see and do, planning a trip can feel overwhelming. That’s why I created this 4-Day CDMX Itinerary to help you explore the city’s highlights without rushing. Whether you love art, food, history, or vibrant neighborhoods, this plan offers a balanced mix to make your visit unforgettable.

Day 1: Dive into Historic Downtown


Start your adventure in the heart of Mexico City. The historic center is packed with iconic landmarks and rich stories.


  • Zócalo (Plaza de la Constitución)

This massive square is one of the largest in the world. It’s surrounded by impressive buildings like the National Palace, where Diego Rivera’s murals tell Mexico’s history.


  • Metropolitan Cathedral

Just steps from the Zócalo, this cathedral blends Gothic, Baroque, and Neoclassical styles. Take time to admire its intricate altars and chapels.


  • Templo Mayor

Explore the ruins of the Aztec temple discovered beneath the city. The museum nearby displays artifacts that reveal pre-Hispanic life.


  • Lunch at Café de Tacuba

This historic restaurant serves traditional Mexican dishes in a charming colonial setting. Try the chiles en nogada if it’s in season.


  • Palacio de Bellas Artes

Walk to this stunning cultural center with its colorful tiled dome. Inside, you’ll find murals by famous Mexican artists and a beautiful theater.


  • Alameda Central Park

End your day with a stroll through this green space, perfect for people-watching and relaxing after a full day.


Day 2: Art and Culture in Coyoacán and San Ángel


On day two, head south to neighborhoods that feel like stepping back in time.


  • Frida Kahlo Museum (Casa Azul)

In Coyoacán, visit the home where Frida Kahlo lived and worked. The museum offers insight into her life and art, surrounded by a lovely garden.


  • Coyoacán Plaza and Market

Wander the cobblestone streets, browse local crafts, and enjoy street food like quesadillas or churros.


  • Lunch at Corazón de Maguey

This restaurant offers delicious Oaxacan cuisine and mezcal tastings in a cozy setting.


  • San Ángel

Visit this artsy neighborhood on Saturdays for the Bazaar Sábado, an open-air market with handmade art, jewelry, and textiles.


  • Museo Casa Estudio Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo

Explore the modernist studios where the artists lived. The architecture and gardens are as fascinating as the art inside.


Day 3: Modern Mexico City and Chapultepec Park


Experience the city’s contemporary side and vast green spaces.


  • Chapultepec Park

One of the largest city parks in the world, it offers museums, lakes, and gardens. Start at the Chapultepec Castle for panoramic views and history.


  • Museo Nacional de Antropología

This museum houses one of the best collections of pre-Columbian art and artifacts. Don’t miss the Aztec Sun Stone.


  • Lunch at El Lago

Located inside Chapultepec Park, this restaurant overlooks a small lake and serves refined Mexican dishes.


  • Polanco Neighborhood

Spend the afternoon in this upscale area known for shopping and dining. Visit Avenida Presidente Masaryk for boutiques and cafes.


  • Dinner at Pujol

If you want a special meal, book ahead at Pujol, one of the world’s top restaurants, offering innovative Mexican cuisine.

Day 4: Explore Roma and Condesa Neighborhoods


Finish your trip with a day in two of CDMX’s trendiest neighborhoods, full of charm and great food.


  • Roma Norte

Walk the tree-lined streets filled with art galleries, bookstores, and coffee shops. Don’t miss the Cibeles Fountain, a replica of the famous Madrid landmark.


  • Breakfast at Panadería Rosetta

Try their guava pastry and excellent coffee to start your day.


  • Condesa Park

Relax in this green area surrounded by cafes and restaurants. It’s a great spot for people-watching and enjoying the local vibe.


  • Lunch at Contramar

Famous for fresh seafood, this place is perfect for a light, flavorful meal. The tuna tostadas are a must.


  • Street Art Tour

Both neighborhoods have impressive murals and street art. Join a guided tour or explore on your own to discover hidden gems.


  • Evening Drinks at Licorería Limantour
